Description

Angermünde – Pasewalk – Prenzlau – Schwedt/Oder – Strasburg – Templin In the north-east of the Mark Brandenburg, not far from Berlin and yet very far away from hectic city life, lies one of the largest districts in Germany - the Uckermark. The Uckermark owes its face to the huge glaciers that rolled across the country around 15,000 years ago during the last ice age. Gentle hills, huge boulders, dense forests and wide open landscapes, over 500 lakes characterize the original landscape. Megalithic and tumuli, fields, pastures and historic cobbled streets. Traces of human settlement go back to the Neolithic Age. Three national natural landscapes - the Lower Oder Valley National Park, the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve and the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park - protect more than half of the scenic heritage of the Uckermark. Architecture, Art and culture are closely intertwined with the history of the landscape in the Uckermark. Churches, farmsteads and megalithic tombs have always been built from glacial deposits. Castles, estates and manor houses were also built from field stones. Almost nowhere else in Germany are there so many of them in such a small area. The most important towns in the district include Angermünde (with its small, narrow streets), Prenzlau (with the towers of St. Mary's Church that can be seen from afar), Templin (with its medieval city wall) and Schwedt/Oder (with the nearby charming river valley of the lower Oder Valley). Get to know the Uckermark on a bike tour between a predominantly flat landscape and partly uneven terrain. One of the most important long-distance cycle routes included in the map is the Berlin-Usedom cycle route, on which you can cross the Uckermark relatively centrally. On the Oder-Neisse cycle path you pass the district on the eastern edge on the border with Poland, on the Brandenburg tour in the south-west. The most beautiful regional routes include the crane cycle tour, the "Spur der Steine" cycle path and the Uckermark circular cycle path, which over 290 kilometers lets you experience the diversity of the Uckermark in nature and culture. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
