Description

Bergen – Jasmund – Putbus – Ostseebad Binz – Sassnitz – Wittow Germany's largest and probably most beautiful island of Rügen has an unusual variety of natural and landscape forms to offer: old dark forests, quiet bays, gentle hills with secluded lakes, wild and rugged cliffs, dry heath landscapes and spits stretching for kilometers with wide sandy beaches. In between are pretty little fishing villages, stately castles and turbulent, traditional seaside resorts. The landscape along the Strelasund and the Greifswalder Bodden is tranquil, isolated forests and wide meadows and fields characterize this stretch of land. The narrow-gauge railway "Rasender Roland" connects the seaside resorts and other small towns of Southeast Rügen. The 24?kilometer route begins in Göhren across meadows, through moors and forests, past the seaside resorts of Sellin and Binz (the largest Baltic Sea resort on the island) and the Granitz hunting lodge on the Tempelberg. The train is pulled by well-maintained steam locomotives of various series. In addition to the restored wagons from around the turn of the century, the Rügensche Kleinbahn also operates a traditional train in the original color scheme. In the middle of Rügen lies Bergen, the 800-year-old city with around 13,500 inhabitants and the largest town on the island of Rügen. It quickly developed into a central square that attracted craftsmen and merchants and where markets were regularly held. The historic Hanseatic city of Stralsund, with the Rügendamm bridges the gateway to the island of Rügen, invites you to discover and linger. The former wealth and position of power can still be seen today in the magnificent town houses, administrative buildings, churches and monasteries. In order to preserve this cultural heritage, the entire medieval old town was placed under monument protection and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The sometimes very hilly route of the Baltic Coast Cycle Path and the Rügen Circular Path on the island of Rügen mostly runs on side roads with little traffic, but sometimes also on bumpy cobblestone, concrete slab and gravel paths. Unfortunately, there are also sections of the route that run in heavy traffic. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
