Description

Burg (Spreewald) - Cottbus - Forst (Lausitz) - Hoyerswerda - Senftenberg - Spremberg Lower Lusatia is the northern part of Lusatia and a region in southern Brandenburg, northern Saxony and western Poland. The West Slavic people of the Sorbs are at home in Lower Lusatia, as well as in Upper Lusatia to the south. In the course of the migration of peoples in the 6th century, the Slavic tribe of the "Lusizer" settled in today's Lower Lusatia and the then rather inhospitable Spree landscape. The entire area got its name much later, after the habitat of the Lusizerians – Lusatia. Its center is the city of Cottbus. The second largest city in Brandenburg is located on an artificially raised sand island at an old river crossing of the salt road from Halle to Silesia. After the Second World War, the city became the center of the lignite mining areas of Lower Lusatia. The Lusatian lignite mining area is a “moving” landscape in the truest sense of the word. This is in an exciting process of change. For example, in the south of Lower Lusatia, the Lusatian Lake District was created by flooding former lignite mines. It is the largest artificial lake landscape in Europe and extends over approximately 1,300 square kilometers. The individual stations – active opencast lignite mining, intermediate landscapes and recultivated recreational landscapes – are connected with one another on a circular route, for example by the Lower Lusatia Mining Tour. You can see the deep aisles cut into the earth by the gigantic conveyor bridges in Welzow-Süd and Jänschwalde, the IBA projects such as the European Biennale in Pritzen, the Slawenburg in Raddusch and Lake Senftenberg. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
