Destination:
The most striking feature of the Allgäu Alps are the grassy mountains with steep grassy slopes that are covered in vegetation right up to the summits; the highest mountain is the Grosser Krottenkopf (2656 m), other well-known peaks are the Mädelegabel (2645 m) and the Trettachspitze (2595 m).
On both sides of the Illertal around Sonthofen are the Allgäu Pre-Alps and the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park; around the world-famous winter sports resort of Oberstdorf are the Allgäu High Alps with the mountains of the Kleinwalsertal. Characteristic are the bizarre rock formations in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park; the gently moulded flysch mountains around the Ostertal valley; the terraced villages towards the Riedberg Pass; the ravines, gorges, torrents and mountain lakes; the sea of crevasses on the Gottesacker plateau. Füssen - the cradle of European lute and violin making. The region is characterised by its ‘famous rurality’, which the Upper Allgäu region, with its scattered villages, hamlets and farmlands, has retained to this day.
has been preserved to this day. A picturesque moraine landscape as a legacy of the Ice Age glaciers, together with the impressive silhouette of the Allgäu mountains, forms a highly inviting hiking area.
