Description

Allgäuer Alpen – Illertal – Immenstadt – Isny – Kempten – Memmingen – Wangen The Allgäu is a landscape and sub-region of Upper Swabia, mostly covering the Bavarian districts of Oberallgäu, Ostallgäu, Unterallgäu, the independent cities of Kempten and Kaufbeuren, and the south-eastern part of the district of Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg. The Allgäu Alps, a mountain range in the northern Limestone Alps, are considered to be the southern border. In the west they reach as far as Lake Constance, in the north the foothills run as far as Kempten. A large part of the mountain group - the Allgäu High Alps - has been designated as a nature reserve on an area of ??approx. 20,000 hectares. They are among the most species-rich mountain ranges in Germany. The great variety of rock types in the soil and extreme weather and climatic conditions are the reason why a particularly large number of rare and often protected animal and plant species occur in the Allgäu Alps. The mountain region is a well-known holiday area and well developed with marked hiking trails, huts and mountain railways. The Allgäu, today mainly known as a holiday region, is rich in indescribably beautiful landscape. The friendly little towns, idyllic villages, countless farms and lovely alpine pastures invite you to visit them and also to take a break with a glass of beer or a hearty cheese snack in one of the numerous alpine dairies. The Allgäu Alps inspire with beautiful alpine pastures, mountain farms and picturesque villages with the typical Bavarian onion-roof churches. The source of the Iller is near Oberstdorf in the Allgäu Alps – a popular winter sports resort and the annual venue for the Four Hills Tournament. The Iller finds its way through the Allgäu, roams through a wonderfully wide valley with the Iller breakthrough and many interesting towns such as Immenstadt (monastery church), Kempten (Allgäu Museum) and Illerbeuren (open-air museums). Also worth a visit are Memmingen with the Kreuzherrnkirche in the closed medieval old town, the medieval-looking Wangen im Allgäu, Kißlegg with the new and old castle, Scheidegg with the skywalk allgäu and the town of Isny ??- the climatic health resort is nestled in the idyllic landscape with a view on the striking mountain range of the Allgäu Alps. The Allgäu is ideal for cycling, even if there are a lot of inclines to be expected. There are numerous well-developed cycle paths and only very few sections in traffic and only isolated sections on unpaved paths through forest and meadows. Of the numerous signposted long-distance and regional routes included in this map, the following stand out: The Allgäu cycle tour takes you around 450 kilometers through the beautiful Allgäu. The Allgäu Cycle Path begins in Isny ??and leads via Kempten to Marktoberdorf, the Iller Cycle Path begins in Oberstdorf and leads via Kempten along the river to Ulm. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
