Stately cycling in the Münsterland
The 100 Castles Route takes you to the fabulously diverse park landscape of the green Münsterland. This is characterized by meadows and pastures, cheerfully alternating with little woods and hedgerows. Pretty towns and villages, dreamy farming communities with half-timbered houses and of course more than 100 castles, moated castles, mansions and stately manors, to which the cycle route owes its name, are interspersed again and again. The lush, fertile lowlands of the Munster Bay are framed by the Hohe Mark and smaller ridges along the Lippe and Ruhr rivers in the south and the Teutoburg Forest in the north. The smooth transition to the western lowland areas on the Lower Rhine and in the Netherlands is hardly noticeable in the landscape - including the border that is open everywhere.
